About...

Darren John McEvoy was born on a cold spring morning in 1975 somewhere just outside of London. He is a self-taught artist who now resides in Plymouth.

Having always had a passion for creative expression in its many forms, Darren has, over the last ten years, channelled most of his artistic energy into painting and developing his own styles within the broad boundaries that oils and acrylics offer. Using bold colours and designs, which bring to life the figurative subjects in his works, Darren explores the human form interweaved with emotion and feelings.

'Smoov.co.uk was set up in 2005 as a platform for me to promote and sell my work. I believe in providing affordable art to anyone who cares to own it. I believe that art should be accessible to all without the need for galleries commissions boosting the price.

Concerning the Pop Art on sale on the site I thought it was worth noting that I am well aware that similar companies provide similar paintings for lower prices, but I am firm in my belief that you get what you pay for. If you require something pretty for your wall and have £30 to spend then go to Athena, buy a print. If you require something pretty for your wall, want an original painting, but don't want to spend much, then go to ebay. They have many cheap works that may look great from the thumbnail image but can be badly painted, and possibly imported from a country that exploits it's workforce and our economy in the bargain!
Should you want something amazing to hang on your wall, want an original oil painting, painted by hand with a brush and appreciate quality and value for money, then please contact me at info@smoov.co.uk

I am committed to quality in all I create and am strong in my opinion that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well and made to last.

The designs in the Contemporary and Illustrative galleries mostly began life as pencil sketches, cluttered together with various scribblings and doodles in the pages of my many sketchpads and notebooks that live in a stack, crammed in the lower shelves of my bookcase and don’t often see the light of day. I let them out occasionally when I need inspiration for a new painting, leafing through the pages until I see a series of shapes or lines or sometimes a whole design just sitting there waiting to be transformed through paint and canvas into something more whole and colourful.

I have always found it difficult to communicate the meanings and influences behind my work and find it more interesting to hear what others make of them. Some may see light where others see dark, some will understand whilst others may not. For my part I hope they please the viewer and also hope they convey some sense of beauty. Make of them what you will, for they are what they are.'
