Portraits

Commissioning a personal portrait from smoov.co.uk is a relatively painfree experience. To begin I will need a photo (or photos) from which I can work and perhaps some ideas from you on the colour scheme you prefer. Don't worry if you don't have that artistic eye as I can provide you with some designs to get you thinking.

To Commission a portrait...

Step One
Send me the photograph you are interested in creating a portrait from including any preferences you may have regarding colour, size and ratio of canvas. The more information you can give me, the easier it will be to design your portrait.

Step Two
Based on the preferences you have given me I will create one or more digital proposals and email/post them back to you for approval or adjustment. Once you are fully happy with the design I will begin work.

Step Three
Your design will then be immortalised in the finest quality artists oils, painted by hand to the highest standards on double primed box canvas (35mm relief).

You will receive your canvas by courier within 2-5 weeks.

For any other queries please see the FAQ's section or contact me.

Below are some examples of previous commission work which show how, even from a standard photograph, stunning results can be achieved.

The client in this example wanted a standard portrait but wasn't sure which photo to use and so sent a few. This enabled me to produce several different designs in the colour she requested which were then emailed to her. She chose the design above which sticks closely to the original photograph in layout and ratio.

Here the subject of the painting was unaware she was posing for a portrait painting as the canvas was to be a suprise birthday present. After playing about with several designs it was decided to concentrate the design on her smile as the client was unsure how the subject would react to a portrait of herself staring back from her living room wall. By zooming in on a detail of the original photo, in this case the smile, we were able to make the final design a little more abstract and not necessarily obvious as a portrait but personal nonetheless.

There are an infinate number of ways to design your canvas limited only by your imagination. Here you can see how the profile line of the face can be used to create a visually stunning portrait. In the brief the client requested that I match the colours used in the final canvas to an existing colour scheme within their home. By emailing an attachment of a photograph of their living room to me during the design stage, I was able to closely match the colours in the final design to their liking.

In this case the client showed interest in commissioning a portrait that would create a dramatic impression in her home. After seeing several different designs she decided on the close up of her eye which had the desired effect. We then worked towards a colour scheme that would bring warmth to it's future home whilst complementing it's surroundings. Another example of how concentrating on a detail of the original photo can produce striking results.

If you are interested in commissioning a personal portrait please contact me to discuss options. Prices for this service are comparable to the canvas prices given in the Pop Art gallery for a painting of equal size and detail.
